SCS visits Inland Revenue Department (with photo)

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, visited the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) today (August 7) to better understand the work and services of the department, and to meet with its management and front-line staff to step up mutual communication.

Mr Law first met with the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Mr Richard Wong, and the directorate staff. He was briefed on the department's efforts in revenue collection, and the enforcement and promotion of tax laws.

Mr Law then visited the Document Processing Centre, where he learned about the handling of tax returns by staff. Later, Mr Law proceeded to the Central Telephone Enquiry (CTE)centre and was briefed on the services provided to the public who call to request information. The CTEcentre handled over 700,000 calls in the last financial year.

Mr Law was pleased to know that the department has provided assistance and accommodation to help staff with disabilities integrate into the workplace.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Law met with staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering and listened to their concerns. He praised colleagues for their efforts and encouraged them to continue to strive to deliver quality services to the community in a professional and proactive manner.
